KATHMANDU: The Ministry of Labour, Employment, and Social Security has taken a significant step to support thousands of Nepalese workers who have passed their Employment Permit System (EPS) exams but are still waiting for a job in South Korea.
Many candidates have found themselves stuck in the “roster”—a list of eligible workers—without receiving a job offer. To address this, the Ministry has made three key decisions aimed at ensuring these individuals don’t lose their chance to work abroad.
Extending the Roster ValidityOne of the biggest concerns for applicants is that their eligibility on the roster might expire before they get picked by a Korean employer. The Ministry has decided to use diplomatic channels to request the South Korean government to extend the validity period of the current roster. This move is intended to give those who have already passed the tough language and skill tests more time to be selected for employment.
Increasing Quotas and TransparencyIn addition to extending the time limit, the government is also pushing to increase the overall number of Nepalese workers allowed to enter South Korea under the EPS. By initiating diplomatic talks, the Ministry hopes to secure a higher quota, which would mean more jobs for the thousands of people currently waiting.
To make the process fairer, the Ministry is also addressing how personal details are sent to Korean employers. There have been concerns about how people are selected from the roster, so the government has decided to form a special task force. This team will study the current system and recommend ways to make the selection process more transparent and impartial.
Protection for CandidatesThe Ministry’s decision comes as a relief to many who felt they were being left behind due to the current system’s limitations. By forming a task force and seeking a quota increase, the government aims to ensure that the hard work of those who passed the EPS exams results in actual employment opportunities.
