KATHMANDU: The Department of Transport Management (DoTM) has suspended all services related to driving licenses across Nepal due to a technical failure in its electronic licensing system. The disruption, which began on Friday (Ashar 20, 2082 BS), affects the online application system, essential license printing, and the electronic driving license (EDL) platform.
In a notice issued today, the department stated that efforts are underway to fix the issue. “All services related to driving licenses, including the EDL system, online applications, and license printing, are closed until further notice,” the notice read.
This is not the first time the department has faced such a disruption. In recent years, citizens have repeatedly complained about server outages and delays in service delivery. Despite claims of digital modernization, technical glitches remain a frequent obstacle in Nepal’s transport service infrastructure.
Thousands of individuals awaiting biometric appointments, trial results, or urgent license issuance have been left in limbo. The recurring failures raise questions about the department’s preparedness and the effectiveness of Nepal’s broader push toward digital governance.
No official timeline has been announced for the restoration of services. The DoTM has advised the public to wait for further updates.
