Proton eMAS 7 electric SUV officially debuts in Kathmandu street

KATHMANDU — Jagdamba Motors, the official distributor of Proton vehicles in Nepal, has inaugurated a state-of-the-art showroom in Thapathali, Kathmandu — one of Nepal’s busiest automobile hubs. The new outlet is exclusively dedicated to Proton’s electric vehicle, the eMAS 7, which has gained popularity in global EV markets.

The grand opening ceremony was jointly led by Executive Director Akhil Gupta, Senior Vice President Raju Bhetwal, celebrated actress and singer Keki Adhikari, and musician Brijesh Shrestha. The ribbon-cutting and ceremonial lamp-lighting marked the formal commencement of the new showroom.

Speaking at the event, Executive Director Akhil Gupta expressed pride in establishing a showroom at such a strategic commercial location. Highlighting the vehicle’s global recognition, Gupta said, “The Proton eMAS 7 has become the best-selling electric vehicle in its segment in both Malaysia and China. We’re excited to bring this global success story to Nepal.” Gupta also revealed expansion plans, announcing that Jagdamba Motors aims to launch 15 new showrooms across Nepal — including Naxal and Thapathali — by 2025.

Senior Vice President Raju Bhetwal noted the challenges in Nepal’s competitive automobile market and stressed the company’s decision to directly operate the showrooms for better customer service. “We are also planning to open new 3S showrooms (Sales, Service & Spare Parts) in Bhaktapur, Pokhara, Narayanghat, and Nepalgunj in the coming months,” Bhetwal added.

At the event, actress Keki Adhikari received delivery of her new Proton eMAS 7. Expressing her admiration, she said, “I chose Proton because of its classic design, luxurious interior, and the trusted reputation of the Shankar Group behind it. Receiving the car on Tulsi Ekadashi makes it even more special.”

Singer and composer Brijesh Shrestha, already a user of the eMAS 7, shared his positive experience: “Its five-star safety rating, long-range reliability, and excellent performance make it ideal for family travel. My family and I are fully satisfied with this car.”

Founded in 1983 as Malaysia’s first national car brand, Proton has undergone a technological transformation since its 2017 partnership with Chinese auto giant Geely. The eMAS 7 reflects that innovation, featuring cutting-edge EV technology and performance metrics.

Key Features of Proton eMAS 7:

160 kW electric motor with 320 Nm peak torque
