Nepal stock market gains 14 points as trading turnover declines

KATHMANDU: Nepal’s stock market rebounded on Thursday, with the Nepal Stock Exchange (NEPSE) index gaining 14.17 points after falling 13.95 points in the previous trading session.

Following Thursday’s gain, the NEPSE index closed at 2,726 points, which was also the day’s highest level.

The index dropped to 2,689 points at 12:23 p.m., marking the lowest level recorded during Thursday’s trading session.

Of the total companies traded, share prices of 149 companies increased, while 115 declined and 12 remained unchanged.

Despite the rise in the benchmark index, overall trading turnover declined. Shares worth Rs 4.67 billion were traded on Thursday, down from Rs 5.18 billion recorded in the previous session.

Most sectoral indices closed in positive territory. The Trading sub-index recorded the highest gain, rising 2.58%.

The Banking index increased by 0.38%, Development Bank by 0.74%, Finance by 0.27%, Hotels and Tourism by 0.99%, Hydropower by 1.12%, Life Insurance by 0.29%, Manufacturing and Processing by 0.31%, Microfinance by 0.13%, and Non-Life Insurance by 0.64%.

The Others sub-index declined by 0.08%, while the Investment sub-index fell by 0.42%.

Among individual stocks, recently listed Everest Colour recorded a 15% gain. Snow Rivers rose 13.71%, Apollo Hydropower increased 9.25%, Hotel Forest Inn gained 7.51%, and Sopan Pharmaceuticals climbed 7.47%.

On the other hand, Kutheli Bukhari Small Hydropower recorded a 15% decline. The company’s lock-in period for a total of 1.209 million shares held by promoters, local residents and employees expired on Wednesday, which affected its share price during Thursday’s trading session.

Similarly, Bungal Hydropower fell 9.93%, while Reliance Spinning Mills declined 4.48%.

In terms of trading value, Reliance Spinning Mills, Ankhu Khola Hydropower, Ridi Power, Solu Hydropower and NRN Infrastructure were among the most actively traded companies on Thursday.
