Surendra Kumar Upreti Elected Unopposed as NADA President

KATHMANDU: The NADA Automobiles Association of Nepal (NADA), the umbrella organization of Nepal’s automobile sector, has elected Surendra Kumar Upreti as its new president for the upcoming term. Upreti, who currently serves as NADA’s general secretary, was elected unopposed, according to information provided by Treasurer Milan Mall.

Mall said the deadline for filing nominations for the election scheduled on Magh 25 was set for Thursday noon. As only Upreti filed his candidacy for the post of president within the stipulated time, he was elected unopposed. However, the formal announcement by the election committee is yet to be made.

Upreti has long been associated with NADA in various leadership roles and is regarded as a skilled organizer actively involved in the development of Nepal’s automobile sector. He has previously served as treasurer and general secretary of NADA and has also worked as a member of the Lubricants and Environment Committee.

Professionally, Upreti is the Managing Director of the STC Group, a leading business conglomerate with a strong presence in Nepal’s tyre, lubricant, battery, and automobile spare parts markets.

Earlier, although NADA’s 49th Annual General Meeting was held on Magh 9, the election process became uncertain after the Kathmandu District Administration Office directed the association to halt the election, citing that the AGM had been convened without a formally announced election schedule.

In compliance with the administrative directive, NADA subsequently fixed Magh 25 as the new election date. Following Upreti’s unopposed election as president, NADA stated that efforts are underway to select the remaining executive committee members and office bearers through consensus.
