Police Headquarters begins hiring 134,000 personnel for election security

KATHMANDU: As Nepal prepares for the upcoming House of Representatives elections, the government has officially started the recruitment process for temporary police officers, known as Myadi Prahari. To ensure the elections run smoothly and safely, the Police Headquarters is looking to hire a massive force of 133,980 individuals.

If you are interested in joining, the application window is short. Starting this Friday, you have just one week to visit your local District Police Office to pick up and submit an application form. These positions are temporary and are designed to last for a period of 40 days.

Who Can Apply?
The criteria for joining are quite straightforward to encourage broad participation. Applicants must be Nepali citizens between the ages of 18 and 54. While you don’t need a high-level degree—just being able to read and write is enough—there are some physical requirements. Men need to be at least 5 feet tall and weigh 50 kg, while women should be at least 4 feet 10 inches tall and weigh 42 kg.

The government is also looking for experience. If you are a retired member of the Nepal Army, Nepal Police, Armed Police Force, or even a former forest guard, you will be given priority during the selection process. Once the applications are in, the selection will take place quickly between January 18 and January 22 (Magh 5 to 9).

Pay and Benefits
The government has laid out a clear pay structure for these 40 days of service. Each temporary officer will receive a daily wage of about Rs. 869, which totals Rs. 34,776 for the full period. This is based on the starting salary scale of a regular police constable.

On top of the basic pay, there are extra allowances to cover daily needs. Money for food will be deposited directly into your personal bank account, following the same rates as regular police officers. You will also receive a one-time payment of Rs. 846 for travel and Rs. 1,200 to cover snacks for four days. A separate clothing allowance will also be provided based on official rates.

Safety is also a priority. If someone is injured while on duty, the government will cover compensation. In the unfortunate event of a death, the person’s family will receive a payout as per government rules.

It is important to note that these jobs are tied directly to the election. If the election is postponed or canceled for any reason, the appointments will automatically end. However, if you have already worked for at least 20 days before leaving for a valid reason, you will still be paid for the days you completed.
