KATHMANDU: The exchange rate of the US dollar in Nepal has climbed to an all-time high again, breaking previous records as the American currency continues to strengthen in the foreign exchange market.
According to the latest exchange rate published today, the selling rate of the US dollar has reached Rs 154.86, while the buying rate stands at Rs 154.46, marking the highest level recorded so far in Nepal’s foreign exchange history.
The continued appreciation of the dollar comes amid global currency market volatility, higher demand for foreign currency, and fluctuations in international financial markets. A stronger dollar has direct implications for Nepal’s import-dependent economy, potentially increasing the cost of imported goods, petroleum products, education expenses abroad, and foreign travel.
Alongside the US dollar, other major global currencies have also appreciated against the Nepali rupee.
The euro’s selling rate has climbed to Rs 179.64, while the British pound sterling reached Rs 206.28, reflecting continued strength in European currencies.
Similarly, the exchange rates of the Australian dollar, Canadian dollar, and Singapore dollar have also increased.
Among Asian currencies, the Japanese yen’s selling rate has risen to Rs 9.72, while the Chinese yuan’s selling rate stands at Rs 22.71.
The rising exchange rate of major foreign currencies is closely watched in Nepal, particularly by importers, remittance-receiving families, students planning overseas education, and businesses involved in international trade, as currency fluctuations directly affect purchasing costs and foreign payments.
