KATHMANDU – The Government of Nepal has announced a Rs 2.124 trillion budget for the upcoming fiscal year 2083/84, outlining spending priorities centered on infrastructure development, economic reform, and fiscal stability.

Presenting the national budget in a joint session of the Federal Parliament on Friday, Finance Minister Dr. Swarnim Wagle unveiled a total budget of Rs 2.124 trillion (Rs 21 kharb 24 arba 34 crore) for the next fiscal year.

Of the total allocation, the government has earmarked Rs 431 billion for capital expenditure, targeting infrastructure development and long-term economic growth projects. Similarly, Rs 422 billion has been allocated under financial management, primarily for debt servicing and other fiscal liabilities.

The government has projected revenue collection of Rs 1.404 trillion, while identifying additional financing sources to bridge the budget gap.

According to the Finance Minister, foreign grants are expected to contribute Rs 61.74 billion, while foreign loans are projected at Rs 247 billion.

To meet the remaining financing needs, the government plans to mobilize Rs 410 billion through domestic borrowing.

Meanwhile, recurrent expenditure has been allocated Rs 1.270 trillion, reflecting the government’s commitments toward salaries, social security, administrative expenses, and regular public services.

The budget comes at a time when Nepal is seeking to accelerate economic recovery, boost investment, expand infrastructure, and maintain macroeconomic stability amid changing domestic and global economic conditions. Analysts say the balance between recurrent spending and development expenditure will remain a key issue in assessing the effectiveness of the fiscal plan in the coming year.
