Himalaya Airlines Hosts UN, IAIO-NARDO Delegation for Dialogue on Age-Inclusive Air Travel

KATHMANDU: Himalaya Airlines welcomed a delegation representing the United Nations Secretariat’s Office of the High Commissioner for Human Rights (OHCHR) and the International Aviation Innovation Organization & Norm Airlift Resources Development Organization (IAIO-NARDO) on July 24, 2026, for discussions on age-inclusive and accessible air travel.

The delegation included Dr. Chitralekha Massey, Chief of Rights of Older Persons at OHCHR; Chai Shuai, Director of UNOG and EU Affairs at IAIO-NARDO; and Chen Kejian, Officer for the Rights of Older Persons at the UN Secretariat.

During the interaction, Himalaya Airlines shared its practices in passenger care and service delivery, while discussions focused on strengthening accessibility and creating a more inclusive and dignified travel experience for older passengers.

Dr. Massey shared international perspectives on the rights and needs of older persons and emphasized the importance of knowledge exchange and collaboration in promoting age-inclusive practices in aviation.

Vijay Shrestha, Vice President–Administration at Himalaya Airlines, said air travel should be accessible, respectful and dignified for every passenger regardless of age. He said the airline valued the opportunity to exchange experiences and contribute to making the aviation sector more inclusive and responsive to older passengers.

The interaction provided an opportunity to explore human rights-based and age-inclusive approaches to help older travelers fly with greater dignity, confidence and independence.
