FNCCI President Dhakal asks hydropower developers to invest in Nepal

KATHMANDU: President of the Federation of Nepalese Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FNCCI) Chandra Prasad Dhakal on Wednesday asked the hydropower developers to tap the huge power generation potential of Nepal.

Addressing the closing ceremony of the two-day power summit 2023 in the capital, Dhakal asked the developers to invest in Nepal’s hydropower sector so as to reap the huge potential of the country.

“There is huge potential of hydropower generation in Nepal. The market is there,” he furhter said pointing the growing neighbouring economies China, India and Bangladesh, “Bring in as much as investment you can. The private sector is ready to support you, facilitate you.”

“There is a good news for us various agreements with India, the 6th largest and one of the fastest growing economies of the world, have opened market access to electricity generated here in Nepal and we have already received around Rs. 11 billion by exporting electricity during monsoon season last year.”

He further asked the govenrment to help create a conducive environment for investment in the hydropower sector.
