Nepal declares IT sector a national strategic industry, Plans push for digital services

KATHMANDU — The government has declared the information technology (IT) sector a national strategic industry, pledging to promote software and digital services as part of Nepal’s broader digital economy agenda.

Presenting the government’s Policy and Programme for fiscal year 2083/84, President Ram Chandra Paudel said the government would prioritize the growth of the IT sector, including the promotion of cybersecurity, green computing, and AI computation exports.

The government also plans to develop digital parks, high-capacity data centers, and public digital infrastructure to position Nepal as a regional tech hub.

In addition, President Paudel announced that IT export industries would receive financial incentives, investment facilitation, government co-investment, and tax incentives for innovation-related spending.
