KATHMANDU: A high-level delegation from the European Union has arrived in Kathmandu for a two-day official mission aimed at strengthening diplomatic, economic, and development cooperation with Nepal.
The delegation is led by EU Ambassador to Nepal H.E. Véronique Lorenzo and includes 22 ambassadors and deputy heads of mission from EU Member States, marking one of the largest coordinated diplomatic visits under the “Team Europe” framework.
The visit, scheduled from 25 to 26 May 2026, is designed to reinforce the EU’s engagement with Nepal’s newly formed government and expand cooperation in key development and policy areas.
During the visit, the EU delegation is expected to hold high-level political consultations with Nepal’s leadership, including a meeting with Prime Minister Balen Shah on Tuesday, 26 May.
On Monday, the delegation will meet senior Nepali ministers including, Foreign Affairs Minister Shisir Khanal, Minister for Culture, Tourism and Civil Aviation Khadak Raj Paudel and Minister for Education, Science and Technology Sasmit Pokharel.
The delegation will also engage with representatives from the private sector, civil society organizations, and youth leaders during its stay in Kathmandu.
Speaking ahead of the visit, EU Ambassador Véronique Lorenzo said the mission reflects the bloc’s continued commitment to Nepal’s development priorities and long-term partnership.
“This mission underscores the EU’s commitment to Nepal. We are here to congratulate the new government, reaffirm our support for Nepal’s development priorities, and explore new avenues for cooperation—from trade and investment to climate action and multilateral issues,” Lorenzo said.
She added that the EU, working collectively as “Team Europe,” is prepared to support Nepal in building a more inclusive, sustainable, and prosperous future.
The European Union remains one of Nepal’s key international development partners, supporting programs in areas such as economic growth, governance, education, climate resilience, and institutional strengthening.
Through coordinated efforts with EU Member States, Nepal continues to receive technical and financial assistance aimed at promoting inclusive development and strengthening democratic institutions.
The ongoing visit is expected to further deepen bilateral cooperation and open new opportunities for trade, investment, and policy collaboration between Nepal and the European Union.
