KATHMANDU – The Government of Nepal has allocated the largest share of the national budget for fiscal year 2083/84 to the Ministry of Physical Infrastructure Development, followed by the education and social security sectors.
According to the budget presented by Finance Minister Dr. Swarnim Wagle, the Infrastructure Development Ministry has received a total allocation of Rs 302.83 billion (Rs 3 kharb 2 arba 83 crore 52 lakh), making it the highest-funded ministry in the new fiscal year.
The Ministry of Education comes second with a budget of Rs 218.30 billion (Rs 2 kharb 18 arba 30 crore), reflecting continued investment in human capital development.
In third place is the Ministry of Women, Children, Gender and Sexual Minorities, along with social security programs, which has been allocated Rs 122.61 billion (Rs 1 kharb 22 arba 61 crore).
The Ministry of Energy, Water Resources and Irrigation has received Rs 114 billion (Rs 1 kharb 14 arba), placing it fourth in terms of total allocation.
The Ministry of Home Affairs has been allocated Rs 108.32 billion (Rs 1 kharb 8 arba 32 crore). Notably, this represents a reduction of nearly 50 percent compared to the current fiscal year, indicating a significant cut in security-related spending.
The Ministry of Health and Food Safety has received Rs 96.43 billion (Rs 96 arba 43 crore), while the Ministry of Finance has been allocated Rs 84.73 billion (Rs 84 arba 73 crore) for administrative and fiscal management functions.

Officials said the allocation structure reflects the government’s focus on infrastructure expansion, human resource development, and social protection, while also addressing rising debt obligations and administrative costs.
The budget distribution highlights continued prioritization of physical infrastructure and education as key drivers of Nepal’s long-term economic growth strategy.
