KATHMANDU – The Government of Nepal has increased the salaries of civil servants by 21 percent, providing a significant boost to government employees amid rising living costs and inflation concerns.

Announcing the measure while presenting the national budget for fiscal year 2083/84, Finance Minister Dr. Swarnim Wagle said the government has increased salaries while keeping the existing dearness allowance unchanged.

Following the revision, the minimum monthly salary of government employees will exceed Rs 40,000, while senior-level officials will receive salaries of more than Rs 100,000, according to government estimates.

The salary hike is expected to benefit thousands of civil servants across federal, provincial, and local government structures, potentially increasing purchasing power and domestic consumption.

The move comes as the government seeks to address inflationary pressure and maintain employee morale, while also balancing fiscal management in the national budget. The unchanged inflation allowance means employees will receive both the revised basic salary and existing allowances.

The salary revision is likely to have broader implications for Nepal’s economy, public expenditure, and the private sector wage structure, as government pay adjustments often influence broader labor market expectations.
